who's a big kitty?

Well- actually all of the kitties, but Winnie is really growing quickly! Here she is sitting on the cardboard bench and looking attentive.

someone is a very naughty kitty!

Winnie is really getting into her naughty kitten stage. She is about three shelves up on the bookshelf in this photo. At least she isn't trying to eat the electrical wires for the moment!
This photo cracked me up because this is really what Winnie looks like most of the time. Just a blur of teeth and fur! :)
Oh good, she is finally tired, although I don't expect this nap to last too long.

just a few photos full of the cuteness!

Winnie now weighs in at a whopping 3.5 lbs! She loooves Dash, and Dot is still tolerating her. :) Here are a few photos from the past few weeks. Its amazing how quickly she is growing.

Winnie and Dash Cute Battle

Winnie is making herself at home these days. She loves to hang out with all the toys.
Dash thought he would see if he could fit in Winnie's box. He did fit. We call this the "muffin top"
Winnie looooooves Dash. She tries to snuggle with him at all opportunities.
The other day we introduced Winnie to the wonders of looking out the window! She thought it was great!
And then she was distracted by the cord to the shades. Don't worry, she was closely supervised. :)

Meet Winnie!

As many of you know, Zach found a teeny tiny kitty three weeks ago when John, Beth, and Amrit were visiting. She is doing well, and has quite the attitude! We are working diligently to get her to stop nibbling on fingers, but she is a bit of a slow learner. :) I took a couple of photos when we were playing today and wanted to share them. Dot and Dash are being very patient with Winnie, although they aren't super fond of her!

best dot photo

After taking photos on the high line, I wanted to shoot around the house a little bit, since I don't use my nice digital camera nearly enough. I took this of dot sitting on the desk today. I love the depth of the color in her eyes, and her stately pose.
This is a funny one of dash too. The perspective cracks me up.

who has the hardest job in our family?

Dash.

close up cats

i thought that we needed a few kitty photos today. Dot is sitting with me, getting her ears scratched. she loves that. she's still not so much of a lap sitter, but she will hang out on her terms.
Dash on the other hand is a big snuggley kitty. He is currently sitting on my lap jamming himself in front of my book. This happens often.

walking on the high line, yeah.

Saturday afternoon Zach and I went for a walk on the newly open high line. There is only one entrance point, so to get there we walked along the route on the street for a while. This is The Standard Hotel, it spans over the high line, with a restaurant at its base.
After waiting in a bit of a line (!) we walked along the paths.
I love the layers in this photograph of the meetpacking district with the new buildings.
Then... a storm began to roll in quickly. There is a tiered seating area with a large glass bridge looking over the street. In this photo the seating and building behind are the reflection superimposed over the storm clouds. Looks very ominous!
We walked through the rest of the high line quickly, as we could see the storm clouds coming. It started to rain as we were walking down the exit stairs, and then it started pouring! We took refuge under some scaffolding, our umbrella just didn't stop the driving rain! The storm blew over after 15 min or so, and then we met some friends for dinner at a bbq restaurant at chelsea.

a very rotten kitty

dash was sleeping next to me the other day, being totally lazy, and I noticed that his big vampire tooth was sticking out.
then i decided to bother him, which he did not like.  he's a bit like a grumpy child.  can't you just hear the whining in his head?  "awwww.... leave me aloneeeeee....i want to sleeeeeeppppp......"
since i was bothering him, I thought it might be entertaining to see how dash would look with glasses.  :)  doesn't he look clever?

a very hungry caterpillar

I found a caterpillar on my mint plant today.  Foolishly, I let him stay, planning to take him outside later today.  Tonight, I found that he had been rather hungry...
The holes in the leaves reminded me of the end of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" when he eats through a big juicy leaf.
There is also some swiss cheese and an apple in my kitchen, I seem to remember the caterpillar in the book eating through those too...
(no photo of the caterpillar, he was evicted.  don't worry- I just took him outside.)

mmmm...shake shack....

I was in the neighborhood of Madison Square Park, and had a few minutes, so I thought I'd drop by the Shake Shack!
I almost got a delicious burger, but decided on a concrete.  A yummy frozen custard desert- I got a hopscotch concrete- it is vanilla custard with hot caramel, toffee, and chocolate chunks...
This place is known for its super long lines, but on monday at 4 pm I was able to walk right up to the front.  I think it was due to the chilly weather.  On their website is a "shack cam" so you can see how long the line is.  I checked today at 4- and the line looked at least 30 min long.  That's what a beautiful day will do to people in the city!

furniture fair for you?

Monday I went to ICFF at the Javits Center - way out on 11th ave at 35th street.  What a gross, weird building.  The exhibitors were simlar to those last year- but I did have a few favorite things.
The big paper lamps are always cool.
And in the Japanese design area- I loved this little kit to teach kids table manners.  Each bamboo plate and piece of flatware had laser etched the corresponding course.  very, very cute.
The seal (although a little creepy) was also very cool.  It is a robot designed for places that don't allow pet therapy.  It just looks like a stuffed animal- but responds to different types of touch and sounds.  its like a pet that doesn't eat or poop!  awesome! :)

another leed ap!

zach took his LEED professional accreditation exam this morning and passed!  (i am a proud wife) :)  so, now we have two LEED AP's in our household.  now if those lazy cats would just take some initiative....

latest cat model, lcd optional

this morning dash was laying upside down on my lap, as he likes to do.  i was checking the weather on my iphone, and put it momentarily on his tummy.  apparently, he was cool with it.  i think he looks a little bit like a high-tech version of a cat- lcd screen optional... :)

muppets in the subway!

a few weeks ago zach and i were heading home on the train- and made a transfer at atlantic ave/pacific st.  on our walk through the station to the R train, we came across my favorite subway performers yet!  a pink gorilla and a big blue character, somewhat reminiscent of cookie monster were playing a large upright bass and a xylophone!
so awesome because not only are they wearing super costumes- but
also playing huge instruments! you know, you just don't see many
xylophone players these days...

whoah, is that a pinkstone?

i often walk by this house- it is only about two blocks from my apartment.  i'm not really sure why it is pink.  it always makes me smile though.  i think it would be funny when you are ordering delivery food or telling friends how to get there for the first time.  you know, its the first pink house on the left.  :)
i read on the gothamist that the owner is a 90 year old man who painted the house in 1968.

library at pratt

In addition to studying at home for my architecture exams, i have been doing a little library studying.  the library at Pratt Institute has several of the books that I need, so in the spirit of frugality- i have been reading there.  the library is so pretty.  i love the glass floors.  it is also really cool because the stacks extend between the floors- so you can glimpse down between the books into the floor below.  in other interesting tidbits- there is a pen machine.  i suspect that it does not work- but is still very cool.

study buddies

i have been studying for the ARE- the Architecture Registration Exam.  There are 7 tests to take under the new version of the test.  The kitties think that they should help with the studying.  Dot especially likes to lay across my notes when i am sitting at the desk.  sheesh.

mmmmmmozzarella

Today I made my first trip to the A&S Italian Pork Store in Park Slope.  They recently moved a few blocks down the street, and I have been meaning to stop by since the new location opened up.  I stopped in for prosciutto but when they told me that their fresh mozzarella was still warm, I just had to try some. I got the smallest portion they had- which was still a full pound. Seriously- I think this is one of the most awesome things I have ever eaten. Now the problem is going to be that I am going to eat the entire pound of cheese by myself today.

the sink is clogged

this is what we found in the sink.  (actually dot was in the sink and zach added dash)  the funny thing was that they hung out like this for a little while while we stood there and laughed at them!

new bed= new cardboard chair

When we got our new bed- it came in a very large cardboard box.  This box was the perfect type of cardboard for making chairs.  So- after the box stood in our apartment for a month- I finally spent a Sunday afternoon cutting and folding the chair.
The box spread open barely fit in the living room... The kitties decided to help by laying in the middle, and then providing additional supervision.
Finally- after several long hours of climbing around on the floor... we have a new chair to add to the collection!  Zach was dissappointed that we weren't able to get two from the box, but unfortunately it just wasn't proportioned correctly.  So- apparently, the living room can be used for chair production! :)
