a very hungry caterpillar

I found a caterpillar on my mint plant today.  Foolishly, I let him stay, planning to take him outside later today.  Tonight, I found that he had been rather hungry...
The holes in the leaves reminded me of the end of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" when he eats through a big juicy leaf.
There is also some swiss cheese and an apple in my kitchen, I seem to remember the caterpillar in the book eating through those too...
(no photo of the caterpillar, he was evicted.  don't worry- I just took him outside.)

mmmm...shake shack....

I was in the neighborhood of Madison Square Park, and had a few minutes, so I thought I'd drop by the Shake Shack!
I almost got a delicious burger, but decided on a concrete.  A yummy frozen custard desert- I got a hopscotch concrete- it is vanilla custard with hot caramel, toffee, and chocolate chunks...
This place is known for its super long lines, but on monday at 4 pm I was able to walk right up to the front.  I think it was due to the chilly weather.  On their website is a "shack cam" so you can see how long the line is.  I checked today at 4- and the line looked at least 30 min long.  That's what a beautiful day will do to people in the city!

furniture fair for you?

Monday I went to ICFF at the Javits Center - way out on 11th ave at 35th street.  What a gross, weird building.  The exhibitors were simlar to those last year- but I did have a few favorite things.
The big paper lamps are always cool.
And in the Japanese design area- I loved this little kit to teach kids table manners.  Each bamboo plate and piece of flatware had laser etched the corresponding course.  very, very cute.
The seal (although a little creepy) was also very cool.  It is a robot designed for places that don't allow pet therapy.  It just looks like a stuffed animal- but responds to different types of touch and sounds.  its like a pet that doesn't eat or poop!  awesome! :)
